6 Practical Tips to Lose Weight Without Exercise

Saturday, 30 May 2026

Isn't it wonderful if you can lose weight without putting in much effort? This is a dream come true for those of us who are lazy or hate exercising. Well, it is possible to lose weight without exercising - provided you have the discipline to change your lifestyle.

Try some of the following tips..

1. Drink more water

When you wake up, drink 2 glasses of water to help activate your internal organs. Water offers many benefits such as helping to remove toxins from your body, regulate body temperature, lower blood pressure, carry nutrients and oxygen to body cells and maintain optimal kidney function. You can add fruit slices like oranges, mint or lemon for extra flavour and nutrients.

Tip: Drink a big glass of plain water 30 minutes before meals to help you feel fuller and reduce food intake.

2. Eat slowly and mindfully

Chewing longer helps suppress hunger and makes you full faster. The liquified food increases the amount of nutrients absorbed by the body and is easier on your digestive process.

Tip: Chew every mouthful at least 20 times before swallowing.

3. More fibre and protein

Protein takes longer to digest and decreases the level of ghrelin (hunger-regulating hormone), making you feel fuller for a longer period. Fibre expands in your gut like a sponge, so it's a natural appetite suppressant

Tip: Drink a Protein-Fibre Shake about 20 minutes before meals, especially if you're planning to take deep-fried or oily food. The fibre forms a layer in your digestive system, and reduces the absorption of fats, sugar and salt, which not only control your weight but also prevent diabetes and constipation problem. Take a look at this video on how to make the shake:

4. Cut down on sugar

If you want to lose weight, sugar should be the first thing to go. Be mindful of the "hidden" sugar eg. in your salad dressing, sauces, canned fruits, honey, creamer etc. By eliminating sugar, you lower your risk of heart disease dramatically as it reduces your risk of high blood pressure and diabetes.

Tip: If you like coffee, try CEO Coffee. This healthy coffee uses roasted beans, coconut oil instead of creamer and most importantly, contains Lingzhi. Not only does it taste delicious, it has the bonus of clearing blood vessels and preventing colon cancer. Click on this link for more details:

http://www.pingofhealth.com/2018/09/drinking-delicious-healthy-coffee.html

5. Manage stress levels

When your body is under pressure, it releases the hormone cortisol, which can increase cravings for energy-dense, comfort foods. High cortisol levels over time are also linked to abdominal fat gain.

Tip: Spend 5 minutes mid-morning and in the afternoon to do a few rounds of deep breathing.

6. Get proper sleep

Evidence shows that people who get too little sleep have a higher risk of weight gain than people who get 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night. Sleep deprivation changes your endocrine function and metabolism by affecting your production of hunger-regulating hormones ghrelin and leptin. This can make you feel hungrier than usual, increasing the likelihood of craving for unhealthy snacks.

Tip: Practise good sleep hygiene by sleeping at the same time every day and ensure the room temperature is comfortable.

Protein, Collagen and Calcium

Sunday, 23 June 2024

This post shares with you the ingredients and benefits of the 3 main building blocks our body needs - protein, collagen and calcium.

1. Protein

Proteins are essential for the development of our health across all ages. While animal proteins are considered to be the best dietary protein source, there has been a paradigm shift towards plant-based protein around the world. Studies associate it with lower risk of heart disease and obesity. Soy protein has emerged as one of the most popular plant-based options as it is considered as a complete source of essential amino acids.

Jia Hor Soya Protein:

a) Isolated soya protein - can be easily assimilated and utilised by our body.

b) Lecithin - capable of reducing the build-up of body fats. It is especially beneficial for pregnant mothers as it can promote good developmental growth of the foetus's brain functions.

c) Papain (papaya enzyme) & Bromelain (pineapple enzyme) - capable of breaking down large protein molecules to enhance their digestion and assimilation.

2. Collagen

Collagen is a structural protein that forms connective tissues in our body. Hydrolyzed collagen is collagen that has been broken down into smaller chains for easier digestion.

Vitaking is a bio-technology product containing hydrolyzed collagen, lemon verbena and D-Ribose. Lemon verbena is a herb known for its ability to relieve inflammation, and help the functions of our digestive system and liver. The benefits of Vitaking include:

a) Preserve skin radiance and healthy glow, delay and improve the signs of skin aging like wrinkles.

b) Promotes healing and growth of muscle tissues after exercise.

c) Alleviate inflammatory symptoms and relieve arthritic pains caused by physical exertion and movement.

d) Strengthen bone functions, help repair joint cartilage tissues and reduce the stiffness and pain caused by aging joints.

3. Calcium

Our bones are also storage banks for minerals, especially calcium. In the process of bone metabolism, old bone are removed and replaced by new bone tissues every day. Calcium helps to build and maintain bones and it needs vitamin D for better and more effective absorption into the body. Calcium supplements come in handy when we don't get sufficient supply of these 2 important nutrients from our diet.

Jia Hor Calcium Plus Tablets contains:

a) Purely natural concentrate of dairy calcium, which is extracted from cow's milk.

b) Vitamin D3, which is capable of catalysing the assimilation and utilisation of calcium to help preserve the normal density of the bone mass and calcification of the skeletal system.

c) Casein phosphopeptide (CPP) which is readily absorbed by the intestinal tract and minimises the precipitation of calcium in the digestive system to help facilitate the absorption.

5 FAQs on Protein

Sunday, 19 March 2023

Protein is one of the major nutrients in human body. Protein is made up of amino acids. Human body cannot manufacture essential amino acids. Our body does not store protein - excessive protein would be converted into fat or excreted from the body. Hence, protein needs to be constantly supplied from dietary source.

Major Functions of Protein

  • Major structural components of cells and tissues; and is necessary for building and repairing tissues and organs.
  • Forms our enzymatic system and regulates body metabolism.
  • For immunity and protection.
  • Transport materials in the body.
  • Supply energy.

Protein Deficiency
  • Stunted growth in children.
  • Falling hair, brittle nails and flaky skin.
  • Weakness and fatigue.
  • Increased severity of infections.
  • Loss of muscle mass.
  • Slow recovery from injuries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How much protein do you need?
A. Humans need about 0.8-1.0 g of protein per kilogram of body weight. One should consume more protein to improve muscle condition, strengthen immunity and for optimal bone health. In other words, people who are more physically active, pregnant ladies and the elderly require more protein.

Q2. Which protein do you need?
A. Animal-based protein have high content of fat, calorie and cholesterol. Whereas plant-based protein are low in fat and calorie and free of cholesterol.
Soya protein is a complete protein. It provides a full range of essential amino acid needed by the human body.

Q3. How much of protein intake is too much?
A. Protein intake accounts for 10-35% of the total calorie intake, and should not exceed the upper limit of 35%. The source of protein should be the primary concern. It is more important to make sure we consume high quality protein for better digestion and absorption.

Q4. Why do elderly people consume less protein?
A. Studies show that higher intake of protein is associated with better strength and physical performances, and may reduce age-related muscle loss. One-third of adults over age 50 fail to meet the RNI (Reference Nutrient Intake) for protein. Some challenges ageing adults face in getting enough protein include loss of appetite, difficulty in chewing, decreased tastebuds, health concerns and age-related changes in metabolism.

Q5. What is the efficacy of plant-based protein on building muscles?
A. Muscles enable movements, provide skeletal supports and protect bones and joints. Not enough of protein causes loss of lean muscle mass, slow healing of wounds and make us more susceptible to infections. People tend to lose muscle as they grow older. Muscle strength is affected without good and balanced nutrition. Tough workouts create microscopic damage within muscle cells, which are composed of protein. Isolated soya protein is beneficial in building muscle and strength. Carbohydrates and fats are also essential as sources of energy.

Jia Hor Instant Soya Protein Powder

3 main ingredients:

(a) Isolated soya protein
Soya protein of high concentration are extracted using high technology, allowing better absorption into our body without the burden of chemical compounds like purine that form uric acid when metabolised. The PDCAAS (Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score) is a method of evaluating the quality of protein. The PDCAAS of soya protein is ranked at the highest score of 1.

Adding soya protein to the diet benefits heart health and lower blood cholesterol. Consuming 25g of Isolated soya protein daily together low fat and low cholesterol diet will help reduce the risk of getting heart disease.

(b) Lecithin
Lecithin is an important component in cell membrane, and helps restore the cell membrane. It promotes the revitalization of the brain cells, improves memory and prevent Alzheimer Disease. It is a strong emulsifier, and can help breakdown the fatty residue buildup in blood vessels. It is beneficial to pregnant women, children and the elderly.

(c) Papaya and pineapple enzymes
These 2 papain and bromelin enzymes aid in absorption of Jia Hor Protein into our body.

How to consume?

Digestion System Diseases: Application of SH Products

Sunday, 9 January 2022

If you know how to interpret the sickness in your body, you will be able to take care of them before they become serious. Our mental and emotional states contribute substantially to our physical health.

It's not easy to control our emotions. Psychedelic drugs can make you happy. However, these hallucinations are temporary and also harmful. The practice of meditation can help control your emotional state to keep it calmer and more stable. If you are at a negative mental state, unhappy or depressed, it's very good to practice medication.

Believe it or not, the health of our Digestive System has a lot to do with our emotional health. Many major diseases are related to the digestive system because the nutrients that our body need come from food. The nutrients has to be digested and absorbed before it can be utilised. Even if you have consumed a lot of food, but because of wrong eating habits or wrong food combination, your cells are not able to absorb the nutrients.

The 3 common illnesses that manifest because of poor digestive system are liver diseases, gastric ulcer and constipation.

1. Liver diseases

Anger is an emotional state that affects the liver. Anger a vicious cycle. People who are always feeling angry will harm their liver function. And when their liver function drops, it makes them become even more agitated. When one is angry, it creates stagnation of liver Qi and its flow is blocked.

Stagnation of liver Qi results in insufficient supply of Qi to the brain and because of that, they tend to get headache or migraine easily. For ladies, the act of constantly suppressing your anger can lead to breast cancer.

Liver disease is not easy to detect because it's a silent organ (it doesn't feel pain) and hence the symptoms are easily misdiagnosed.

Symptoms of liver disease from TCM perspective:

(a) Eyes
- Poor vision can be attributed to unhealthy liver.
- Red veins on white of eye - stagnation of liver Qi or poor sleep quality over long-term.
- Yellow patches on white of eye - liver unable to breakdown bilirubin or jaundice.
- Skin tags on the face below eyes - fatty liver.
- Drooping eyelid - stagnation of liver blood.

(b) Energy level
Liver is an energy generator. If you feel tired most of the time, it's an indication that liver function has dropped. You may sleep a lot but still feel very tired.

(c) Nails
Condition of nails indicating unhealthy liver - brittle, dull, pale, uneven surface.

What causes fatty liver?
When the liver cannot breakdown the fats as it should, the fats accumulate and wrap around the liver, leading to fatty liver. When liver cannot metabolise fats, the functions of metabolising toxins also deteriorate. There's no medicine to treat fatty liver. The best a doctor can do is advise you to change your lifestyle and eat less oily food.

What causes headache or giddiness?
Bone marrow synthesise blood. From TCM point of view, liver transports blood to the heart, which onward transport to all over the body, including the brain. So liver plays a key role. If it's weak, its efficiency drops, there will be insufficient blood (and oxygen) pumped into the brain. Further, if there is blockages in the circulation system, less blood will reach the brain. That's why people get headache.

How does paracetamol/painkillers function?
It only suppresses your pain. But it doesn't clear the blockages. As the pain escalates, you need to increase the dosage and there will come a day when it is no longer effective.

How does Lingzhi work?

(i) Lingzhi is particularly effective for liver. It reduces the level of GOT and GPT enzymes i.e. it directly improves liver function. This in turn reduces migraine problem and improves digestive function.

(ii) Lingzhi also has the ability to increase the liver protein content (albumin and globulin) which means improved ability to regenerate new liver cells.

Yung Kien Ganoderma can work for these 2 areas simultaneously.

Whereas from Western medicine point of view, if you are diagnosed with liver diseases, you need to take interferon drugs to reduce GOT and GPT. It is very expensive. If the disease is caused by infections, doctor prescribes antibiotics or anti-viral drugs. However, these drugs don't improve the liver functions at all. For that, some people inject stem cells. There can be a lot of side effects.

2. Gastric ulcer

People who think they have gastric problem but which are not solved by taking gastric medication should have their liver examined. Because many a times, liver diseases have been misdiagnosed as stomach disorder.

What cause gastric ulcers?
- Irregular meals, over-eating - the gastric juice produced is not used therefore eroding the stomach lining.
- Eating too fast without chewing properly creates a lot of stress to the stomach. Digestion starts in the mouth. Saliva breaks down carbo. If you don't chew sufficiently, your stomach is forced to work harder.
- Drinking too much water while eating - it dilutes the stomach acid and therefore affects proper digestion.
- Lying down immediately after meals can lead to reflux. Dinner and sleeping time should have around 3-4 hours gap.

How do gastric drugs work?
A common drug prescribed for severe stomach ulcer is Controloc. If you only depend on drugs, but don't change your lifestyle, you will never be able to permanently improve your condition. Controloc is a proton pump inhibitor. It works by blocking the proton pump from pumping acid into the stomach.
Another way gastric drugs work is to dilute the stomach acid. But it cause the side effect of bloatedness.
As such, since the drugs only address the symptoms and not the root cause, the diseases cannot be cured.

What's good for digestive system?
For people with gastric problem, mix 2 sachets Jia Hor Protein in warm water, shake well and drink immediately.

For people who eat irregular meals, mix Jia Hor Protein and Jia Hor Fiber with water and drink immediately to substitute the missing meals so that the stomach lining is protected.

For people with indigestion problem, take Yung Kien Pollen as it contains more than 94 types of enzymes and coenzymes to help digest food. In order for food to be digested, broken down, absorbed and utilised, you need 3 factors to be present at the same time, which are vitamins, minerals and enzymes.

If you're always very busy and don't have the habit of eating vege and fruits, it's good to take Yung Kien Pollen as it has all the essential nutrients that your body requires to improve your digestive system.

3. Constipation

After food has been digested, absorbed and utilised by the body, the residual will be excreted from the body. If it cannot be flushed out, you suffer from constipation.
There are 2 common causes of constipation:

(i) Lack of fiber
As we age, our colon's peristalsis function becomes sluggish. It's important to take fiber to stimulate the movement of the intestines. We need about 25g of fiber a day, which is very hard to meet from our daily food intake. It's not surprising to have remnants of waste from many years ago still stuck in our colon. If your colon is sluggish, it moves slower. More water and toxins will be reabsorbed and circulate back into the body system. The stools become harder and heavier and sink - which are signs of unhealthy stools.

(ii) Poor liver function
Liver is an energy generator. We need energy to create the peristalsis movement. When liver function is deteriorated, it does not create enough energy for colon to move the bowel. In this case, even laxatives may not be effective.

Take 4-5 Lactoberry a day as well as Yung Kien Ganoderma to help regulate back your elimination process.

Immune, Nervous and Circulatory Systems Diseases: Application of SH Products

Sunday, 5 December 2021

This article talks about the application of Shuang Hor products in addressing different kinds of diseases related to 3 main systems in our body - Immune system, Nervous system and Circulatory system.

1. Immune System
- allergy, cancer, SLE, AIDs

(a) Immune-Regulatory Effect

Lingzhi has the ability to suppress over-active immune cells (which refers to T and B cells). The T and B cells start to act irregularly when the body is constantly under a lot of stress. They may randomly attack your platelets or blood vessels (causing stroke).

There's no medicine to treat auto-immune problems completely. Doctors can only control using steroid. No doubt steroids can suppress immunity, but there are a lot of side effects. And if the level of T and B cells are constantly low, it increases the risk of cancer.

Our body's most powerful anti-cancer cells are NKC and phagocytes. They patrol our body and swallow the cancer cells.

Young people have thousands of cancer cells in their body. These cells are unable to form into tumour because they are eaten by the NKC and phagocytes, which are active and functioning well. Those who succumb to cancer have low levels of NKC and phagocytes.

Some symptoms of poor immunity and thus face higher risks of cancer:
- White spots on the tongue or lining of mouth.
- Mouth ulcers that will not heal.
- Hardly have fever.

Old people have tens of thousands of cancer cells. One of the ways the body protects itself is to group all cancer cells together to form a tumour.
If size of tumour is less than 1 cm, it is undetectable.
If size of tumour is 3-4 cm, it can be detected. By then, it may be at stage 3, especially for colon cancer.

How Lingzhi works

For auto-immunity problems, Lingzhi suppresses the activity of T and B cells. At the same time, it boosts up the activity of NKC and phagocytes. YK2 works more effectively for those with auto-immune problem due to the higher content of triterpenoids.

Take at least 20 YK1 or 3 YK2 within an hour to suppress the activity of T cells.
If the auto-immunity problem is very severe, take the said dose 3-4 times / day.

(b) Anti-tumour Activity

Our WBC count start to deteriorate as we grow older. There is no medicine in the market that can boost up WBC. However, YK1 has the certification that it can do so.

Click on this link for more info on the types of certifications YK1 has been accredited with:
http://www.pingofhealth.com/2011/11/accreditation-and-endorsements-for.html

YK1 has the ability to activate the vitality of WBC and that's how it achieves anti-tumour ability. When the WBC kill the enemies (by engulfing and swallowing them), they also die at the same time. If you have sufficient and strong WBC, they can quickly eliminate the pathogens.

This explains why some people feel feverish after taking Lingzhi. People who don't get fever could mean their WBC are not working. Because one way to destroy the virus is by increasing the body temperature. Hence fever is a good sign as it means that the body is fighting against the invaders. Such people recover quickly from their illnesses. Relying on panadols and aspirins are not good solutions in the long-term because the WBC would forget how to work.

How to take Lingzhi

Stage 4 cancer = 2 boxes YK2/day for a higher chance of survival + 10-20 sachets Pollen + JH Soya (for patients who have no appetite or cannot eat).
Stage 3 cancer = 1-2 boxes YK2/day. Take for 3-4 months, many a times the cancer cells will disappear.
Stage 2 cancer = 1 box YK2 or 10 capsules YK2 + 10 capsules YK1 (budget constraint).

A suggested ratio is 1 YK2 to match with 1 sachet YK Pollen.

(c) Reduce Side Effects of Chemo

Experienced doctors will examine a patient to check if they are strong enough to undergo chemo. Patients feel very low in energy after chemo. There are many things they cannot eat.

Chemo patients and those who are exposed to a lot of radiation (e.g. using handphones excessively) should take more YK Pollen, as it has anti-radiation properties. A lot of cancer are caused by radiation, which creates free radicals in the body, which attack the stability of our body cells and cause massive cells death. YK Pollen can protect the cells from the attacks of free radicals.

2. Nervous System
- migraine, epilepsy, sleep disorder, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer

Such diseases are closely related to the brain. Our cells are in one of these 4 stages - healthy, dead, sick and ageing. Our body has a mechanism called Apoptosis. If this apoptosis process is working well, it has the ability to eliminate the cancerous, abnormal cells and regenerate new good cells. If we abuse our body through unhealthy lifestyle, sleeping late and having a lot of stress, this apoptosis mechanism will malfunction and kill its own good cells, including brain cells.

As the brain controls the nervous system, when we lose a lot of brain cells, we also start to lose control of our bodily functions. Some problems include memory loss, stiffness of joints, loss of speech and movement, endometriosis (the body does not eliminate the abnormal cells growing outside the uterus wall when apoptosis mechanism malfunctions) and PCOS.

How Lingzhi works

Lingzhi can maintain the balance and homeostasis of the apoptosis. Lingzhi can prevent the occurrence of diseases.

(a) Lingzhi has calming and relaxing effect on nervous system
When the body is in a calm and relaxed state, the apoptosis function would be more normal.

(b) Improve the condition of Alzheimer disease
There's no drug to treat this disease at the moment. They can only relieve the symptoms.

Other SH products that are able to protect the nervous system:

(i) JH Soya because it contains Lecithin, which is food for the brain and it can clean up our arteries. It is a source of high quality protein.

(ii) YK Pollen also has great benefits for our brain cells because it's very dense in nutrients.

(iii) JH Calcium is important for the nervous system to perform properly.

If we have sufficient fluid in our spine to cushion the central nervous system and sufficient calcium, we won't have uneasiness or pain when we move. Vitamin D3 is required to ensure that the body is able to absorb the calcium intake. Sunlight is a good source of vitamin D3.

Many people are under the mistaken belief that by taking cow's milk, they will have sufficient calcium. On the contrary, too much cow's milk may drain out calcium from the bones (because it's acidic in nature). People who are stressed, lack sleep and meat eaters have acidic body constitution (symptoms include fatigue and dry mouth) and they tend to lose more calcium. The reason is because the body neutralises the acidity in the blood by drawing out calcium (as it is alkaline) from our bones, leading to osteoporosis in the long-run.

Hyperthyroidism can also cause blood calcium level to rise and osteoporosis. The parathyroid hormone regulates level of calcium in the blood, by increasing the levels when they are too low. Hyperparathyroidism can cause excess calcium in the body.

An adult needs about 1,000-1,200 mg of calcium/day, equivalent to about 2-4 tablets of JH Calcium per day. Take together with YK Pollen as it has vitamin D which helps with absorption of calcium. Further, pollen is essential to help us achieve a good hormone system because it's rich in many nutrients required.

3. Circulatory System
- HBP, LBP, stroke, cardiac infarction (heart attack), arteriosclerosis (thickening and hardening of walls of artery)

Lingzhi has the ability to clear blockages, as well as regulate HBP and LBP. Some people found that 2 capsules Lingzhi + CEO Coffee work wonderfully on these circulatory problems.

Circulatory problems can also be caused by auto-immunity problem. The malfunctioning macrophage immune cells can trigger the over-growth of endothelial cells, leading to blockages of arteries.

Click on this link for a more detailed explanation..
https://pingofhealthexclusive.blogspot.com/2016/09/authorised-2016-q-session-with-dr-chen.html

There's no medicine that can treat this problem. Hence even vegetarians or people who eat healthily can also get blockages, if they have auto-immune system problem. However, Lingzhi has the ability to regulate the immunity such that this condition will not happen.

The Lecithin in JH Soya can clear the clots that block the arteries.

The Maltodextrin in JH Fiber can reduce the levels of cholesterol, fats and triglycerides in the blood and maintain healthy blood glucose level.

The Ribose in Vitaking can replenish the ATP energy so the liver is not burdened to over produce cholesterol (to produce energy).
The Lemon Verbena in Vitaking has anti-inflammatory effect which can address the inflammation of the arteries. Doctors usually prescribe steroids to reduce inflammation, but there are many side effects. Take 4-6 Vitaking / day can help reduce severe inflammation. Elderly people who are feeling very weak can safely take up to 6-8 Vitaking / day (for several days) to help them quickly recover their energy.

Conclusion

In summary, SH products are able to manage the diseases when you already have them. But if you don't have them, SH products can prevent them from happening.

It is important to know how to use SH products because they really have therapeutic effects. Understand how they work so you will dare to take at the correct dosage.

Uniqueness of Jia Hor Soya Protein and Jia Hor Fiber

Sunday, 7 February 2021

Protein and fiber are 2 of the key nutrients our body needs on a daily basis.
On average, for every kilo of our body weight, we need to consume 1 gram of quality protein.
As for fiber, we need to take an average of 25 apples or 1 kilo of leafy veges a day to meet our daily requirement.
If you're like me, it's a tall order. So, for over 10 years, I have relied on these 2 supplements - Jia Hor Soya Protein powder and Jia Hor Fiber.

Jia Hor Soya Protein

What is so unique about Jia Hor Soya Protein is because it is an isolated protein powder.
The skin of soya beans contains purine (which is one of the main culprit for causing gout pain), as well as fats and cholesterol. Jia Hor Soya Protein does not contain purine because it has gone through an isolation process and already been converted to amino acid. Thus the human body cells can easily absorb and utilise.

In fact, Jia Hor Soya Protein has also been added with papaya and pineapple enzyme, which further help with absorption; up to 95% of the protein consumed. This is important because many of the protein products in the market are still in big molecule structure whereby your body must have the ability to breakdown and digest. If your body is not functioning at tip top condition, whatever protein you consume may cause more burden to your kidney.

People who want to go on diet or don't have good appetite can take 4-6 sachets Jia Hor Soya Protein a day as their meal replacement as it contains high quality raw materials for their body to use.

Many people who suffer from kidney problem are prevented by doctors from taking high protein food; for example, people who suffer from gout, diabetes or undergoing dialysis. But protein is a very important ingredient for all our cells. About 30% of our whole body structure is made from protein. Where are they going to take their source of protein?

Jia Hor Soya Protein is also excellent for people with gastric caused by taking a lot of painkillers. Drink the protein shake mixed with warm water. The bubbles from the shake help form a layer of protective membrane to protect the stomach lining and repair the damaged lining. It is advisable to use warm water as it works better to reduce the stomach acids from attacking the lining.

Some soya protein are very cheap, selling at perhaps RM20 for 1 kg. However, these kind of products are likely in the form of whole soya beans that are grounded into powder, perhaps only removing the skin. Thus, they are Not in readily-absorbable amino acid form, unlike Jia Hor Soya Protein. This explains for the price difference. Vegetarians in particular are very concerned about quality as they mainly rely on such form of soya protein to get their essential amino acids.

Jia Hor Fiber

Many fiber products in the market share a similar feature - they are added with an ingredient called senna. It's a kind of laxative, because many people take fiber supplements for constipation problem and want to see quick results. To meet the demands of these people, senna is added.

That explains why after taking these types of fiber products, people experience diarrhoea. Senna is used to stimulate the peristalsis movement of intestines to create purging. One of the disadvantages of this method is the diarrhoea can become uncontrollable and disturb the balance of electrolytes in the body. We also lose a lot of mineral contents in the body and experience dehydration.

In medical reports, the reading of electrolytes appear in the section for kidney. If you have been experiencing diarrhoea often, these readings will not be good.

This is not how Jia Hor Fiber works. You won't experience watery stools like diarrhoea. Instead, it provides you with sufficient amount of fiber (whose original function is to act like a broom) in your colon, and your bowels will move naturally as the fiber sweeps the wastes out.

On average, we need about 25-30g of fiber a day. A sachet of Jia Hor Fiber contains a net weight of 4g fiber. Thus for a person who hardly consumes fiber products, it is advisable to supplement with 3-6 sachets a day.

Some doctors advise patients not to consume too much fiber because it will affect the absorption of minerals especially calcium. However, Jia Hor Fiber is different. It is added with a soluble dietary fiber called Digestion Resistant Maltodextrin.  Apart from regulating bowel movement, it is able to maintain healthy blood glucose level, and reduce cholesterol and triglycerides level. It also does not affect the absorption of calcium.

For people with a 3-Highs condition, it is best that they can add Jia Hor Fiber into their diet. For diabetics who cannot control their diet, their blood sugar reading can be maintained much better if they also consume Jia Hor Fiber. They do not have to take so much medication.

A little tip: using hairdryer to blow at the sole of the feet is found to be helpful for people with weak kidneys and weak limbs.

Exclusive: Solutions to Women's Diseases (Cysts, Fibroids, Polyps and Endometriosis)

Sunday, 19 July 2020

The 4 common types of growths that are related to women's reproductive organs (comprising ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus) are cysts, fibroids, polyps and endometriosis.

Click on this link for details on the various types of growths and the symptoms, causes and complications:

This article covers 4 ways to address these diseases:

1. Western way of treatment, i.e. by using medicine.
2. Natural way to treat / prevent.
3. TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) way of treatment.
4. How Shuang Hor products help.

1. Western Treatment

1(a) Medicine

These 4 methods are usually advised if the size of the growth is less than 5 cm.

a) Watchful waiting
Doctors may decide not to prescribe anything. If the person's liver function is strong, the growths may resolve on their own.

b) Using birth control pills or hormone therapy
The main function is to stop ovulation and prevent the developments of new cysts. It also slows endometrial tissue growth and prevent new implants of endometrial tissue. But it isn't a permanent fix for endometriosis.

c) Control and lessen symptoms uterine fibroids and polyps
The most commonly used drug is gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists, which blocks the production of estrogen and progesterone.
Another method is by using progestin-releasing intrauterine device (IUD) or Mirena to help relieve heavy bleeding.

d) Tranexamic acid (Lysteda)
It is used to treat heavy menstrual bleeding.

Side effects of medicine

a) Birth control pills or hormone therapy
By using this method, high levels of estrogen will be produced, which convinces your pituitary gland that you are pregnant and you don't need to ovulate anymore.

Mild side effects: Larger breasts, weight gain or loss, reduced or increased acne.
Serious side effects: Increased risk of cervical and breast cancer, heart attack and stroke, migraine, yeast (candida) overgrowth and infection because birth control pills destroy the beneficial bacteria in your intestines.

b) GnRH agonists
Side effects include hypoestrogenism, hot flashes, headaches and osteoporosis (thus it's common for doctor to also prescribe calcium or bone strengthening medicine to be taken at the same time).

c) Progestin releasing IUD, Mirena
Side effects include irregular periods, benign ovarian cysts, pelvic pain and depression.

1(b) Operation / Surgery

If the growth is bigger than 5 cm, doctors may recommend surgery.

a) Remove ovarian cysts
  • Laparoscopy (for small cysts). A surgical procedure where an instrument is inserted through the navel to perform minimally invasive surgery.
  • Laparotomy (for large cysts). A large incision is made on the abdominal wall and if the growth is found to be cancerous from biopsy, a hysterectomy (removal of ovaries and uterus) will be performed.
b) Remove uterine fibroids
  • Hysterectomy - removal of uterus.
  • Myomectomy - removal of fibroids only.
c) Remove uterine polyps
  • Hysteroscopy - removal of polyps via the insertion of a tube through the vagina. Biopsy is then conducted.
d) Remove endometriosis
  • The initial surgery will seek to remove only the endometriosis (laparoscopically or conventional abdominal surgery).
  • hysterectomy and removal of both ovaries may be necessary for severe cases of endometriosis. The side effects include osteoporosis and accelerated ageing.
2. Naturopathy

Practicing a healthy lifestyle and diet helps prevent growths.

a) To relieve pelvic pain
  • Warm baths and a heating pad can help relax pelvic muscles, reduce cramping and pain.
  • Avoid cold drinks.
  • Regular exercise.
b) How to shrink fibroids and cysts naturally
  • Take complex carbo and low glycemic carbo to prevent diabetes (thus reducing risk of cysts) and prevent obesity (associated with development of fibroids). Avoid intake of white rice, white sugar and white bread.
  • Do physical activities for at least 30 minutes, 5 days a week (stabilise blood sugar levels and lose weight).
  • Eat more healthy protein such as fish, beans, legumes and low-fat dairy products instead red meat or dark meat poultry.
3) Natural treatments for endometriosis symptoms
Avoid food that lead to inflammation, including dairy products, processed foods, refined sugar and excessive caffeine and carbo.

Dispelling Myths on Lingzhi, Pollen and Soya Protein

Sunday, 23 February 2020

There are 3 products you can take to help your body keep a healthy biochemistry balance in order for it to function well - Lingzhi, Pollen and Protein. They are the most important fundamentals to keep your body regulated.

Lingzhi is excellent to balance the 3 major systems in our body - Nervous system, Endocrine system and Immune system. These 3 systems affect all the organs in our body. When Lingzhi regulates these 3 systems well, it improves the health of all the body organs.

More details here..

Here are some common misconceptions:

Lingzhi

Myth 1 - Lingzhi is not for everyone
My children are too young. I am too sick and frail. Lingzhi is too heaty.

Truth
People who take Lingzhi and feel heaty basically means there's chronic inflammation all over their body and their body is too acidicLingzhi can effectively counter many types of inflammatory situation and thus provides an excellent single solution for many diseases.

Some people may have a heaty constitution on the upper half of the body and cool constitution in the lower half resulting in water retention. That can be due to blood circulation problem, which Lingzhi can effectively improve.

Dosage is according to body mass. So even if a child is young, but he is heavy, he should be given a higher dose.

Myth 2 - Body will develop resistance against Lingzhi
After taking Lingzhi for awhile, I don't feel the impact anymore and that's why I think it's time to change brand.

Truth
This usually applies to drugs, where it's called drug resistance. But Lingzhi, being a food, won't cause this type of resistance / impact.

After some time of taking Lingzhi, the body's health has been elevated and can do the job better. So if you don't do anything to bring the body's health to another level, it remains the same and hence you feel as if there is no difference. Reaction only happens when the systems cannot cope. For example, if you are not used to running, you will feel out of breath. But after you have trained up, your muscular and circulation systems can cope, there is no more reaction.

There is no need to change brand. Try increasing the dosage. When you push your body to another level of health and you will feel reactions again.

Further, health is relative. For instance, if you don't sleep for 1 week, your level of health drops. If you have the ability to regulate your system, you find that you recover very fast. The level of health keeps changing. If you know that you have been taxing your body using your organ reserves for too long, you need to do the right things (e.g. the right nutrients, rest, sunlight, water) and body will return back to health.

Myth 3 - Lingzhi is traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), don't take it with drugs
People who are undergoing specific treatments like chemo are advised by doctors not to take TCM to prevent any interference.

Truth
Shuang Hor Lingzhi is food, and doesn't fall under the category of TCM. However, Lingzhi can enhance and help the body's ability to regulate and works as an adaptogen.

Myth 4 - Don't take Lingzhi when sick, take drugs instead

Truth
When the body's ability to clear up internally-created toxins is not efficient, it becomes a favourable ground for external pathogens to flourish. At times like this, your immune system needs even more help. Take more Lingzhi to enhance the body's ability to get rid of the disease.

Myth 5 - Why people still develop cancer after taking Lingzhi for many years

Truth
People don't suddenly get cancer. It forms over a long period of time and is affected by many reasons - food, hormones, mental stress, negative emotions, genetics. All theses factors that we cannot see affect the chemicals in the body.

Due to these weaknesses, cancer cells can express themselves more easily in some people despite just a small trigger. In such cases, Lingzhi can delay the onset of disease.

Myth 6 - Why people still die after taking Lingzhi

Truth
Dosage is very important. Further, Lingzhi cannot control how well the body works. It can just help to improve the body constitution. It is also important to have family support, love, religion and complement with exercise and alternative treatments etc.

Pollen

1. Is Pollen allergenic? Why is there a warning on the label of pollen products?

From the mouth, there are 2 passages - the oesophagus and the trachea. When we eat, a muscle will cover the trachea so that the food won't accidentally go into the wrong passage. Likewise, if pollen goes into the wrong passage, it can agitate the immune system and trigger allergic reaction. It is more common for wind-pollinated pollens because when we breath, the muscle won't cover the trachea and hence the pollen gets into the lungs.

Pollen is packed full of nutrients. It's certainly true that some people are allergic to pollen, like some people can be allergic to water or sunlight. However, if the pollen were to enter into the right passage and goes into the stomach, pollen is a hypoallergenic substance. The body can recognise it as nutrients.

The label is a requirement by the government. For instance, some people suffer from hay fever and get acute reaction. Companies are required to have the label, as a normal practice, but they know their products are safe.

2. How much pollen is optimum dosage

Take it according to your body weight. A box of Yung Kien Pollen contains about 75g of pollen. According to studies, 25g of pollen can keep a normal person healthy (10 sachets). However, for pregnant ladies or people whose body is under the bombardment of diseases that cause massive cell deaths, the person would need double the dose.

Soya Protein

Soya worsens oestrogen dominant condition
Doctors forbid patients who have this condition to take soya beans in case it affects their hormone balance.

Truth
Soya beans is a rich source of isoflavones, a class of phytoestrogens, and is similar to the oestrogen hormone.

An oestrogen dominant condition simply means the level of oestrogen is relatively higher than the level of progesterone. But in absolute terms, the person could actually be deficient in both these hormones. Hence if they don't take protein, it worsens their condition. In fact, Jia Hor Soya Protein contains flavonoids that help to supply the body with oestrogen when the body cannot produce. It will make the body condition less dry, and reduce the menopausal conditions.

Phytoestrogens are 100 times weaker than what the body produce. The dangerous one is the one found in petrochemical products (e.g. detergent, shampoo, fragrance, fertilisers) called xenoestrogens. They are 1,000 times stronger than what the body makes.

Oestrogen is supposed to help stimulate the body to grow. Hence breast cancer patients avoid oestrogen as they think it promotes the growth of tissues. What we need is a weaker oestrogen to protect us from the strong oestrogens. There's a receptor in the cells where the oestrogen "sits on". When the seat is occupied by the weak oestrogen, the strong ones cannot park themselves there and trigger the tissues to grow. The excessive oestrogens go to the liver to be broken down. The process of breaking down the oestrogen needs a lot of protein amino acid to make the detox enzyme.

Soya protein helps protect people with this issue. You should not take too much raw soya beans as they contain purines and fats. That is why we recommend Jia Hor Soya Protein.

Protein: Functions, Benefits and Testimonies

Thursday, 4 February 2016

Our body is made up of about 68-75% water and 15-25% protein. Because almost a quarter of our body is formed from protein, obviously protein plays a very important role for our well-being.

Functions of Protein
  • Builds blood which transfer oxygen to our cells.
  • Controls brain and nerve signalling.
  • Builds enzyme which help with digestion of food.
  • Helps with duplication and combination of body cells into organs.
  • Builds antibodies to strengthen our immune system.
  • Works as cellular messengers to transmit messages between cells.
  • Builds muscles and enables muscular movements including chewing of food, blinking of eyes etc.
  • Builds and grows hair and nails.
Protein Deficiency will lead to:
  • Bad hair.
  • Fatigue e.g. feel very tired after lunch.
  • Sluggish muscles.
  • Hormone imbalance e.g. feel uneasy or unhappy.
  • Wrinkled skin.
  • Weak immune system, with tendency to fall sick easily.
Protein Sufficiency will give you:
  • Healthy hair, as 91% of our hair structure is made up of protein.
  • Feel more energetic.
  • Toned muscles.
  • Balanced hormone.
  • Radiant, healthy skin.
  • Stronger immune system.

There are 2 main sources of protein - animal-based (chickens, eggs, cheese etc) and plant-based (grains, soy beans, peanuts etc). We recommend Plant-Based Protein because:
  • Safer - less harmful chemicals and safer for long-term consumption.
  • Digestion - easier to breakdown the protein into amino acids, faster to absorb without being too taxing on our digestive system and more efficient.
  • Higher bioavailability. There's a higher amount of protein / 100g of food. For animal source, it's 13-21 g / 100 g of food intake. For plant-based source, you get 12-36.5 g / 100 g of serving. The 36.5 g is from soya protein.
  • Simple - less cooking and processing.
  • More affordable.
Why Jia Hor Instant Soya Protein
  • Natural - non-GMO.
  • Safe - no cholesterol, purine, lactose, colouring and preservative. It's safe for people with high uric acid and gout condition.
