Aquasense Sunscreen and Makeup Remover

Our face is usually the first part of us that others see. Having a healthy skin with soft, glowing texture gives us confidence to face the world. In our skincare regime, there are 2 components that many of us neglect, or think is unnecessary:

  • Applying sunscreen / sunblock, because we spend most of our time indoors.
  • Using makeup remover, because we do not use makeup.
I used to think that I don't need sunscreen because I drive to work early in the morning before the sun is up, spend the whole day in front of my computer then leave office after the sun sets. No contact with the sun, so no need sunscreen lah.

I also used to think that makeup remover is irrelevant for me and a waste of money because I don't use makeup. No foundation and mascara and eye shadow to remove.

1. Aquasense Sunscreen


We all know UV rays can cause sunburn. But it also has longer-lasting impact like skin cancer, skin aging, pigmentation and wrinkles. Do you know that some artificial lights eg. from mobile phones, computer screens, TV screens, ambient room lights etc emit UV rays? In other words, our skin is still exposed to UV lights even if we spend all our time indoors.

There are 2 types of UV rays that come into contact with our skin:
  • UVB hits our skin surface and epidermis layer and causes sunburn.

What does sunscreen do?

  • Prevent sunburn or other skin damage due to UV rays.

SPF protects against UVB.
PA protects against UVA.

In the market, the ingredients used in sunscreens can be divided into Physical or Chemical categories. There are 3 main differences:

1) Physical: reflects UV rays.
Chemical: absorbs and neutralizes UV rays.

2) Physical: does not penetrate into the skin hence is safer.
Chemical: penetrates into the skin.

3) Physical: has good photostability and will not produce carcinogenic side products.
Chemical: has weak photostability and is easier to produce carcinogenic side products.
