How to Take Care of Your Liver and 3 Testimonies on Hepatitis

Sunday, 31 December 2023

Your liver is the largest internal organ in your body and performs thousands of functions to keep you going. These are some of the Signals you will notice when your liver starts crying for help:

- Dark spots on your face.

- Yellowing of the white of eyes (jaundice).

- Ascites (water retention in belly area).

- First pee in the morning is brownish in colour.

- Fingernails or toenails look dull, change colour, thicken, become brittle, have uneven surface or become loose.

- Feel thirsty and have bad breath. From the TCM (traditional Chinese medicine point of view), this is due to Liver Qi not smooth, caused by stasis / stagnation. The accumulation of foul-smelling toxins in the body tends to give the breath a musty and foul odour.

How to Protect Liver Functions?

1. Lifestyle - have sufficient sleep, do regular exercise, relax your mind and reduce stress.

2. Maintain healthy weight. Obesity can cause the liver to work harder, increasing the risk of fatty liver.

3. Avoid unnecessary blood transfusion, injection, ear piercings, tattoos and sharing of toothbrush and shaver with others.

4. Avoid contact with blood-contaminated equipment or sharing cutleries to reduce the risk of contracting hepatitis B and C as these virus are spread via blood and body fluids.

5. Balanced diet. For a speedier weight loss, eat only low-sugar, high protein and low carb food. Unbalanced diet increases burden on the liver.

6. Food hygiene. Don't drink unboiled water or eat raw seafood as seashells can cause hepatitis A infections.

7. Avoid overeating, alcohol, smoking and processed food.

8. Three acupuncture points for nourishing the liver:

a) Tai chong point (indentation between 1st and 2nd toes).

b) Da dun point (inner part of big toe).

c) San yin jiao point (4 fingers above knob at inner ankle).

Testimonies

These 3 testimonies are extracted from "Healthy Ganoderma" Magazine issue 88, which is a quarterly publication by the Microbiological Research Foundation of Taiwan.

Case 1

Mr Shi Mingde is a hepatitis B carrier. He first detected a benign growth in his liver in year 2000, when he was donating blood. He had a relapse in liver cancer in 2006 and then in 2012. When he came to know about Lingzhi in 2012, he started consuming 9 sachets a day. He did not experience any healing reactions during this period. His liver function index became normal. When he was 78 years old, he could even go for a 34-day tour of 6 countries.

Case 2

In 2011, Mr Chen Yingsheng experienced these symptoms: edema of the feet, gets tired easily, ascites in belly, eyes are a little yellowish, feels drowsy but poor sleep quality and dizziness after waking up. His GPT and GOT readings are normal, but his liver heparin is high at 4.1 mg/dL (normal 0-1.3 mg/dL), and AFP (tumour marker) is very high 170 ng/mL (normal reading for Asians <20 ng/mL). Doctor informed him there is no medicine that can cure him. As his sister-in-law took Lingzhi for her liver problem, he followed suit. 3 months later, his AFP value became normal.

In 2015, he had a recurrence of fulminant hepatitis. The doctor advised that liver transplant is the only way. He started consuming high dose of Lingzhi. After 10 over days, his condition improved. He continued taking Lingzhi until to-date. He didn't need to undergo liver transplant. His blood pressure and blood lipids are normal.

Case 3

Mr Pan Xinhong is a hepatitis B carrier and has hereditary low platelet count. In April 2008, he suffered from severe sepsis caused by acute hepatitis which requires liver transplant. Just overnight, his liver bulged out, he had very severe ascites and his limbs were showing edema. He cannot eat nor urinate. While waiting for liver transplant, he consumed high dose of Lingzhi and Pollen. 8 months later, his liver function improved to a level that resulted in him not being eligible for health insurance if were to undergo liver transplant operation. It would cost him NTD2 million if he proceeded on his own.

in 2014, he was readmitted to hospital for 12 days due to complications arising from liver cirrhosis. The diagnosis states that he has cirrhosis with variceal bleeding, ulcerative colitis, gastrointestinal bleeding and urinary tract infection. He consumed high dose of Lingzhi and Pollen. He improved his daily routine. He also took Jia Hor Protein, Jia Hor Fiber and CEO Coffee. He took more veges and reduced red meat. He stopped working night shift. His liver functions has returned to normal, and his platelet index has also improved.

Links between Digestive System and Liver

Sunday, 7 August 2022

You may think the digestive system is pretty simple - food goes in, waste comes out. But of course, it is a lot more than that. The gut microbiome plays a vital role in one's overall health. Of the 300 to 500 different species of bacteria in the digestive tract, some are harmful to our health, but many are beneficial to us.

However, the pitfalls of modern living eg. high stress levels, insufficient sleep, processed food and antibiotics can result in a variety of health problems. Many studies in the last 20 years have demonstrated links between gut health and the immune system, mood, mental health, autoimmune diseases, endocrine disorders, skin conditions and cancer.

The digestive system consists of the hollow organs i.e. oesophagus, stomach and intestines as well as the solid organs like the liver, pancreas and gallbladder. When people think of gut health, they usually focus on the stomach. They forget about the important roles played by the solid organs.

The liver makes digestive juice called bile, which helps to digest fats and vitamins. Bile is carried by the bile ducts from the liver to the gallbladder for storage until it is used.

Liver problems can be caused by:

  • Infections spread through blood or semen, or contaminated food, and result in illnesses such as hepatitis.
  • Chronic alcohol abuse.
  • Obesity.
  • Certain medications.
  • Certain herbal compounds.
  • Genetic causes eg. build-up of iron or copper.
  • Fatty liver disease which affect people with diabetes, HBP and high cholesterol.
  • Autoimmune diseases.
  • Liver cancer.
Signs and Symptoms

One of the major issues with digestive ailments is that symptoms don't show up until later stages of a disease. However, pay attention to these symptoms:
  • Yellowish discoloration of the skin and eyes (high bilirubin content).
  • Itchy skin and dark-coloured urine (high bilirubin content).
  • Abdominal pain and swelling due to build-up of fluid in the abdomen.
  • Pale stool colour (presence of fats in stool).
  • Chronic fatigue, vomiting and loss of appetite.
  • Tendency to bruise easily (when liver is not performing at its best, coagulation diminishes).
Some tips to adopt:
  • Watch your alcohol consumption.
  • Practise good hygiene eg. wash your hands before preparing and consuming food and ensure it is cooked well.
  • Get vaccinated against hepatitis A and B.
  • Seek medical advice before taking medication.
  • Wear protective gear for those who have exposure to industrial sprays eg. insecticides or paints.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.

In addition to the above healthy lifestyle habits, I would recommend to complement with Shuang Hor Lingzhi (especially Yung Kien Ganoderma), as it has been endorsed by Taiwan's Ministry of Health to have liver protection functions. It is proven to be able to:

(i) repair damaged liver cells, and
(ii) increase the regenerating ability of healthy liver cells.

Bits & Bites #122 - Testimonies: Hepatitis B Virus Carrier, Detox Program and Mental Disorder

Sunday, 17 January 2016

Email askfuiping@gmail.com if you are looking for solutions for your health problems.

Wanderlust
Testimony: Hepatitis B Virus Carrier

Ms W was 17 years old when her mother passed away from Hepatitis B virus infection. When all the siblings were tested, they discovered that 4 out of 5 of them are carriers, and hers is the most severe case, as she has chronic hepatitis B infection. She was devastated and has been searching for a cure for 23 years.
Every year, she and her husband would undergo medical checkup. Her GOT and GPT readings were normal but her DNA real time viral count has always been high. In 2006 and 2009, she suffered 2 major attacks until she couldn't even get out of bed. She went for ozone therapy and prepared her will.

In Nov 2013, she heard about Lingzhi and decided to try. She consumed 12 capsules Yung Kien Ganoderma + 30 capsules Yung Kien Pollen + 1 sachet Jia Hor Soya Protein everyday. After 4 months, she discovered that her Viral Load (virus content in her body) has dropped substantially from 8.7 million IU/mL to 3.9 million IU/mL. She continued with the same dose. After 1 year, her body has HBV antibody of 22.5. After 1.5 years (June 2015), her Viral Load reduced further to 0.9 million IU/mL.
Vertigo reactions: Diarrhoea for many weeks where her stools were mostly liquid, and intense tummy cramps.

------------------------------------

Testimony: Hepatitis B Virus Carrier

A 33 year old male does not drink nor smoke and is also very health conscious. He takes many types of healthfood. He works very hard in his business as a supplier of seafood, making deliveries early in the morning and late into the night.
Despite that, he felt very tired, feverish, had poor appetite, and his skin and urine were yellowish in colour. A medical checkup showed his GOT (AST) reading at 194 IU/L (normal 5-40) and GPT (ALT) is 824 IU/L (normal 7-56). He is a hepatitis B carrier.
He started consuming 5 capsules Yung Kien Ganoderma every half hour, up to 2 bottles a day.
Vertigo reaction: Diarrhoea, smelly black stools, vomited. He wasn't concerned as he understood that it was due to healing crisis.
1 week later, his GOT went up to 379 IU/L and GPT was 1,138 IU/L.
Subsequently he started to feel better.
2 months later : GOT 55 UL/L, GPT 73 IU/L.
3 months later : GOT 29 IU/L, GPT 43 IU/L.
He takes maintenance dosage of 8 capsules Lingzhi a day now for liver protection.
He is no longer a Hepatitis B carrier when he did his blood test a few years later.

----------------------------------

Testimony: 1-Month Detox Program

Ms M decided to embark on a 1-month detox program.
What she consumed:
Morning: 6 capsules Yung Kien Ganoderma + 2 sachets Yung Kien Pollen + 2 sachets Jia Hor Soya Protein + 1 sachet Vitaking collagen + 1 sachet Jia Hor Fiber + 1 sachet Lactoberry probiotics
Night: 6 capsules Yung Kien Ganoderma + 2 sachets Yung Kien Pollen
Vertigo reactions:
She didn't experience very severe healing crisis. She has bowel movements 2-3 times a day, feels more energetic and can stay up later and her skin breaks out into rashes which is itchy but still bearable. Subsequently, when she attended a few functions, she received compliments from her friends who said that her complexion looks more radiant and she looks prettier.

---------------------------------

Testimony: Mental Disorder

An Indonesian lady has been suffering from mental problem for 11 years. She used to behave abusively to her parents and even harm herself. She was violent, hot tempered and could't recognise her parents and sisters. She would set fire to her own clothes. Her family has sought help from Western doctors, Chinese sinseh as well as bomoh. But her condition did not improve at all, so much so that her mother wanted to send her into the mental hospital, after 11 long years.

Her elder sister decided to feed her Lingzhi / Ganoderma, as a last resort.
She was fed 5 capsules Jia Hor Lingzhi each time, 4 times a day.
After finishing 2 bottles Jia Hor Lingzhi (about 1 week), her behaviour changed. She was very quiet and started to sleep very frequently. She would sleep after every meal. It was a very abnormal behaviour compared to her previous violent ways.

After finishing another 10 bottles, she did something unusual. One morning around 9am, she called her elder sister to ask for money to buy clothes to replace those she had burnt in the past. She spoke just like a coherent normal person, and able to recognise her sister. This sister was so shocked and happy by the improvement that she started crying.

She's now able to walk out of her house, just like a normal person. Many neighbours who know of her condition and saw her improvement were very amazed. They wanted to know what happened and she started to share how Lingzhi has helped her. She was able to successfully introduce Lingzhi to some people.

Classifying Hepatitis A, B, C, D and E

Wednesday, 22 January 2014

Understanding the different forms of hepatitis, who is at risk, and how it can be prevented and treated can be confusing. Here are some pointers..

Hepatitis A

High contagious.
Causes inflammation affecting your liver's ability to function.
Contracted from contaminated food, water or someone already infected.
Prevalent in places with poor hygiene and sanitation.
Symptoms: fever, malaise, loss of appetite, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal discomfort, dark-coloured urine, and jaundice.
Mild cases don't require treatment.
Most people recover completely with no permanent liver damage.
Prevention: practice good hand hygiene.

Hepatitis B

Can lead to liver failure, liver cancer or cirrhosis.
Spread through bodily fluids.
Most adults recover fully. Infants and children are more likely to develop a chronic hepatitis B infection.
There is no cure although treatment and prevention options are available.

Hepatitis C

The most serious of the 3 viruses.
Most people have no symptoms and don't know they have hepatitis C infection until liver damage shows up decades later during routine medical tests.
This can happen faster if people's immune systems decline as they age.
Spread through contact with contaminated blood.

Hepatitis D

Transmitted thorough bodily fluids, usually through sex, contact with the blood of an infected person, sharing of sharp objects like needles, razors or syringes, and from mother to child in the womb.
Requires the presence of Hepatitis B virus to replicate, and hence is usually found together with Hepatitis B as a co-infection.
Not usually tested for in a clinical setting.
Treatment for Hepatitis B is equally effective for Hepatitis D.

Hepatitis E

Transmitted through the oral-faecal route, usually through contaminated drinking water and eating products from an infected animal.
Over 60% of infections occur in East and South Asia.
Symptoms: jaundice, anorexia, enlarged tender liver, abdominal pain and tenderness, nausea, vomiting and fever.
There is no treatment, but your immune system is usually able to get rid of the infection by itself.
Complications may arise in pregnant women.

Risk Factors and a Safe Effective Remedy for Hepatitis C

Wednesday, 26 September 2012

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. There are 5 different forms of viral hepatitis: A, B, C, D and E (the first 3 are the most common).

Hepatitis A is the least serious. You can be infected from eating cockles or shellfish. Most people get well after an extended period of rest, and the body is able to totally get rid of the virus.

Hepatitis B (HBV) and Hepatitis C (HCV) are more serious and are chronic in nature. Most people have no symptoms, and by the time they go to the hospital, it may be too late to treat. People infected with HCV may not look or feel sick. If symptoms do develop, they often are not specific (like nausea, fatigue, vague abdominal discomfort). It can take many years after being exposed to the virus for visible damage to the liver to be detected.

Faster rates of progression (some as early as 5 years after diagnosis) are seen in people who are infected at an older age, or who consume a lot of alcohol, have HIV or other liver diseases.

HCV consists of at least 6 genotypes. HCV genotype 1 (G1) is the most common, but also the hardest to treat. For example, the response rate for those with G1 is 40%-50% at best, while those with G3 can be as high as 80%.

People with the highest risk of contracting HCV are:
  • intravenous drug abusers
  • healthcare workers who are exposed to syringes and blood
  • people who obtain tattoos and body piercings
  • people undergoing hemodialysis
  • people with multiple sexual partners
  • children born to mothers with the disease.

There are no vaccines to prevent HCV infection, but the risk can be reduced by avoiding unnecessary injections, body piercing with contaminated equipment, sharing of personal items and unprotected sexual contact with multiple partners.

Symptoms of Liver Diseases: What Can You Do

Sunday, 20 May 2012

Do you know that our liver performs over 5,000 important functions every minute of the day to keep our body going? About 60% of our liver is made up of liver cells called hepatocytes, which has an average lifespan of 150 days.

Some of the important Functions of our Liver include:-
  • Manufacturing (synthesising) proteins and blood clotting factors.
  • Synthesising, storing and processing fats, including fatty acids (used for energy) and cholesterol.
  • Forming and secreting bile that contains bile acids to aid in intestinal absorption of fats and the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K.
  • Eliminating potentially harmful biochemical products produced by our body, such as ammonia (from the breakdown of proteins).
  • Detoxifying drugs, alcohol and environmental toxins.
  • Combating infections in our body, particularly infections arising in our bowel.
  • Breaking down food and converting into energy whenever needed. Carbohydrates are broken down to glucose and stored mainly in our liver and muscles as glycogen. When energy is required, our liver will rapidly convert the glycogen back into glucose, ready to be used.

Risk Factors that affects our liver's health include:-

Unhealthy lifestyle - lack of sleep, smoking, alcohol, unhealthy dietary habits (eating out), stressful work environment.

Medical conditions - diabetes, overweight, high blood cholesterol.

Checklist of Symptoms of liver disease:-
  • Jaundice (skin or whites of the eye turns yellow)
  • Itchy skin
  • Dark urine
  • Nausea
  • Frequent headaches
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Appetite loss
  • Tiredness
  • Bloated abdomen
  • Swollen ankles
  • Tendency to bruise easily or bleed excessively
  • Elevated liver enzymes (SGOT, SGPT)
  • General feeling of being unwell
  • Mild weight loss
  • Bad breath.
Fatty Liver is the result of abnormal accumulation of fats inside the liver cells and usually occur in people who:
  • are overweight
  • are diabetic
  • have elevated cholesterol or triglyceride in their blood
  • take excessive or prolonged alcohol.
Fatty liver often does not cause symptoms but sometimes, a person with fatty liver may feel tired or have vague abdominal discomfort.

Alcoholic Liver Disease is caused by prolonged or excessive consumption of alcohol. There is no symptoms in the early stages. In more advanced stages, liver tissues will be damaged, resulting in symptoms like yellowish discolouration of the skin and eyes (jaundice), poor appetite, fatigue, weight loss, weakness and pain in the right upper area of the abdomen.

Drug-induced Liver Injury Our liver processes most medicines that enter our body, converting them into chemicals our body can use or eliminate. During this process, these chemicals can attack and injure our liver. It can result in symptoms of severe fatigue, abdominal pain and swelling, yellowish discolouration of the skin and eyes, fever, nausea and vomiting.

Viral Hepatitis is inflammation of the liver caused by the virus hepatitis A, B, C, D and E. Symptoms include fever, headache, nausea, muscle aches and yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes.

Liver Cancer patients usually have liver cirrhosis which may develop from a variety of causes. Hepatitis B and C viruses are becoming increasingly linked to liver cancer. Typical symptoms include loss of appetite, weight loss, general feeling of poor health, jaundice, fever, fatigue and weakness. However liver cancer is not easy to diagnose in the early stages because its symptoms are usually vague.

Lingzhi is Effective in Treatment of Hepatitis and Liver Dysfunction

Sunday, 6 November 2011

Our liver is one of the most important organs to maintain our health. Simply by keeping our liver in good shape, we will be able to keep a lot of sickness at bay. Unfortunately, liver functions are quite complicated. Therefore, liver diseases are considered difficult to treat. Dietetic treatment is generally the only method adopted by Western physicians.

Fortunately, Lingzhi is able to return this complicated organ's functions back to normal. When our liver function is declining, we feel extremely tired. Taking Lingzhi can help ease the fatigue. In fact, based on some practical investigations, it is found that Lingzhi contributes a very positive effect.

Dr. Shigeru Yuji from Kinki University reported that 10% of liver disorders could be cured after taking Lingzhi for 2 months. 40% of the patients were relieved of their symptoms and their liver sizes were reduced. 50% of the patients felt their symptoms diminished.

Dr. Mitsui Hashimoto, Head of Hashimoto Hospital, disclosed that he prescribed Lingzhi for hepatitis patients and it proved to be exceptional.

He prescribed 6 capsules per day to some patients who could not benefit from other drugs. 3 months later, all the said patients were recovering. Their GOT and GPT values decreased from 200-300 to 100. When the liver sustains damage it will excrete specific enzymes, such as GPT (ALT) and GOT (AST). Abnormal values of these 2 enzymes indicate a problem in the liver. GPT (ALT) normal range is 5-35 IU/L. GOT (AST) normal range is 10-34 IU/L.

Dr. Hashimoto revealed that a patient who used Lingzhi together with some Chinese herbal medicines also reported decreased GOT and GPT readings.

There was another case of hepatitis complicated with hypertension. After taking Lingzhi, satisfactory results were obtained.

The above conditions were not conclusively satisfactory, but positive results of taking Lingzhi on hepatitis can be expected.
