Effective Natural Remedy for Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Friday 30 November 2012

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a long-term disease that leads to inflammation of the intestines and damages the intestinal lining. Ulcers may form, resulting in bleeding.

The various Types of IBD include:

1. Crohn's disease (CD)
It can affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract, from the mouth to the anus. It is more common in men. Complications from CD can develop, including:
  • Fistulas (abnormal openings between parts of the intestine, or between the intestine and another organ, such as the bladder or skin).
  • Obstruction or rupture in the small intestine or colon
  • Skin rashes
  • Arthritis.
2. Ulcerative colitis (UC)
It affects only the colon and rectum. It affects both genders equally.

3. Allergic colitis (AC).
It occurs in infants and young children, due to allergies to cow's milk, egg, soy or wheat. It usually occurs concurrently with asthma, eczema and hay fever.

Causes of IBD

The underlying cause is still unknown despite a large amount of research into it. Experts believe IBD is caused by a combination of factors such as:

1. Genetics
Research suggests that for people with IBD, there is a gene which mutates, causing the body to react abnormally to microbes like bacteria, viruses or protein in food.

2. Immune system
Many immunological abnormalities have been described in patients with IBD, even though none have been shown to be the main causative factor.

3. Environment
Cigarette smoke or the spread of bacteria or viruses can trigger an ongoing immune system response, or aggravate the disease. These environmental factors can damage the intestinal lining directly, triggering the start of the disease or accelerate its development.

4. Diet
An unhealthy diet can worsen symptoms.

Symptoms of IBD
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Blood in stools
  • Anaemia caused by blood loss through stools
  • Loss of appetite
  • Lethargy
  • Weight loss
  • Fever
  • Recurrent mouth ulcers that are difficult to heal
  • Inflammation in the eyes or skin
IBD may stunt a child's growth, due to nutrient loss. Hence, proper treatment must be given.

Toothache: What to Do if You Can't Find a Dentist

Thursday 22 November 2012

My Mum's tooth started to hurt on the eve of Hari Raya. It hurt more the next morning. She went to the dentist for help. The clinic was closed. The pain got progressively worse and in the afternoon, half her face was red and swollen. She looked in bad shape. She couldn't eat and was really suffering from the throbbing ache.

She went to the dentist again the next day. It was still closed. She refused to visit another dentist, as she trusted this chap whom she's been seeing for the last 20 years. I suddenly remembered a remedy which some friends have found to be effective for such cases.

The Recipe is this:

Open a capsule of Yung Kien Ganoderma and mix the powder thoroughly with a 10 cent glob of Greenzhi Toothgel. Then apply it onto the sore tooth. It's anti-inflammatory so it helps reduce the pain. It acts as a protective coating against the environment. The toothgel is food-grade so it's perfectly safe to swallow.

My Mum did that and overnight, her swollen face went back to normal. She claimed there was no more ache. Of course, it was just an interim measure as the tooth was still a problem that needed to be taken care of. The important thing was she wasn't tormented by the continuous pulsating pain. She went to her dentist again. Still closed! I advised her to apply the Lingzhi+Toothgel mix immediately after every meal. It worked - no pain.

Day 4, she visited the dentist again. The clinic was still closed. My goodness, dentists nowadays enjoy a good life. Such a long break, and he's not even a Muslim!

Finally, on Day 5, he was open for business. She got it all sorted out.
The Lingzhi+Toothgel mix is an excellent temporary measure. It's a simple painless solution, and can be used anywhere, anytime. You can apply the same formula for mouth ulcers, inflamed gum etc. And you can use it while traveling or when it's inconvenient to visit a dentist. Please email me at laifuiping@gmail.com to buy.

A 3-Step 3-Minute Breakfast That Is Tasty & Healthy

Friday 16 November 2012

Email askfuiping@gmail.com to get your delicious 3-Step 3-Minute Breakfast supply.

If you constantly skip breakfast, you may end up having less energy, lower concentration, higher mood swings and be more grouchy and irritable. What an awful way to start your day right?

Eating breakfast is one of the secrets to staying healthy. Recent studies have shown that a healthy breakfast contributes towards reducing risk factors for heart disease and diabetes, in relation to cholesterol and blood insulin levels. It will also energise your body for the day and increase your body's metabolism. This helps you burn more calories and therefore manage your weight.

Here are 5 Reasons why people skip breakfast, and Suggestions how to get over that.

1. I have no time for breakfast.
Suggestion: Eat on the go. Stock up on "portable" meals, or pick something up on the way and eat while driving.

2. I am constantly late for work.
Suggestion: Go to bed earlier so you can wake up earlier. You would have extra bit of time for breakfast and more importantly, start your day on a more relaxed note.

3. I am on a diet.
Suggestion: Recent study found that "fasting made people hungrier and increased the appeal of high calorie foods...". So skipping breakfast may sabotage your weight loss goals as it makes you more prone to binging and snacking on unhealthy stuff later. Make sure you eat a wholesome breakfast that will fill you up and give you the necessary nutrients.

4. I don't feel like eating or drinking early in the morning.
My stomach is not used to it.
Suggestion: This is probably based on psychological and emotional reasons. But after having fast for the past 8 hours or so, you need to refuel to give your body and brain the energy it needs for the day.

5. I don't feel like cooking or preparing anything in the morning.
Suggestion: Buy from the shop, or find an easier way to prepare.

4 Important Reasons Why You Need Dietary Supplements

Saturday 10 November 2012

Most of us take dietary supplements as part of our daily routine. To some, it's because almost everybody they know is taking; to others, it's because the mothers / wives say so. Supplements are becoming more and more crucial as part of our health regime. Here are the reasons why:

1. Quality of soil and crops

Vitamins and minerals cannot be made in our body, therefore have to be obtained from the food we eat. Vegetables and fruits are one of our main sources of minerals, which these plants absorb from the soil. Unfortunately, the soil is becoming depleted of minerals, due to:

(a) repeated use of land for agriculture. Just like a well becoming empty after you keep drinking water from it, the mineral content in the same soil also decrease from continuous replanting.

Most agricultural soils today are low in zinc, manganese, chromium, molybdenum, calcium and magnesium. Research shows that this can result in up to 75% decrease in trace minerals in plant foods.

(b) intensive farming. High yield crops contain less nutrients because more crops are competing for the same nutrients from a finite amount of soil.

For instance, wheat farmers today plant 10 times the amount of wheat on the same land, compared to the amount grown 100 years ago.

2. Modern fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides

The superphosphate fertilisers used nowadays contain mainly nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus. They stimulate crops to grow, but do not contain trace minerals that are vital for health.

Pesticides and herbicides kill the microorganisms living in the soil that make minerals for the plants.
When we eat these pesticides together with the plants, more nutrients are needed to remove these toxins, placing a heavy toll on our body.

3. Food transportation and processing

Our food often takes days or weeks from the time of harvest until it reaches our markets. Many vitamins are unstable and are easily destroyed when exposed to environmental factors like heat and light.

By the time the food is handled, packaged, transported long distance and cooked, a lot of nutrients have been lost. We consume a lot of refined, processed, canned and frozen food for convenience and economic reasons; even though we know they are less nutritious than fresh and natural food.

Refining wheat to white flour removes 80% magnesium, 70-80% zinc, 87% chromium, 88% manganese and 50% cobalt.
Making polished rice lost 75% zinc and chromium.
Making white sugar from sugar cane lost 99% magnesium and 93% chromium.

4. Unhealthy lifestyle

We often skip meals then binge on a heavy meal to make up for it. We make poor food choices that deprive us of the variety of nutrients we need.

High stress levels levels overstimulates our sympathetic nervous system, which causes poor digestion and weak absorption of nutrients.

As we age, our bodies will produce fewer enzymes that are needed to properly digest the food we eat. Hence, older people are more vulnerable to nutrient deficiencies.

As such, it is essential that we need dietary supplements if the food we eat fall into the above categories or we're pregnant, elderly, vegetarian or have a chronic illness.

How 1 Simple Problem Blows Out of Proportion

Monday 5 November 2012

Here is an all-too-real horror story of how a simple complaint ends up with 7 medications.

A lady in her 80s is still very healthy. She has never taken regular medication. One year ago, she had trouble sleeping, so she went to see a doctor. That visit changed her life, so to speak.

The doctor prescribed amitriptyline to help her sleep. It has a sedative effect. Unfortunately, the side-effects are many, including urinary incontinence, blurred vision, dry mouth and constipation.

Because of the side effects, she visited the doctor many times over the next few months complaining of these symptoms. What did the doctor do? Gave her medications. The doctor prescribed her a drug to help her urinary problem, some drops for her eyes and 2 types of laxative.

One morning, while over-sedated from the initial sleeping pill, she fell and fractured her hip. She had to undergo a hip operation. After her hip was fixed, the surgeons gave her medication to strengthen her bones. It caused her heartburn. Guess what? The doctor gave her more medications to treat that.

And to think that it all started because she had trouble sleeping.

(Source: A nation of pill-poppers, Dr Max Pemberton, StarFit4Life 4 November 2012)

What's the moral of the story?

Stop the increasing reliance on drugs to address lifestyle factors. Because eventually, taking one medication can lead to another and another. Instead, look for alternatives. Choose something which is not only Effective, but also very Safe for long-term consumption. And has No Side Effects.

Choose Shuang Hor products, because we ensure our products meet all these 3 criteria before we bring them to you. Therefore, you can consume them with peace of mind. Email me at laifuiping@gmail.com if you know of friends whom you like to help.

Why Diabetes Cause Blindness and Safe Remedies to Prevent Diabetes

Thursday 1 November 2012

Diabetes occurs when:-

(i) Type 1 - our body is unable to produce insulin (hormone that stimulates our cells to take in and store glucose from our bloodstream)

(ii) Type 2 - our body's cells start to fail to respond to insulin.

Can diabetes result in blindness? Yes. There are 2 ways.

1. Diabetic macular edema

It's the more common condition amongst the working population. High levels of blood glucose in our body can eventually result in the weakening of our blood vessel walls. The weakened blood vessel walls cause leakage of proteins and fluids into our eye, particularly the macula. This causes the macula to swell up, resulting in blurred vision.

Diabetic macular edema can develop without symptoms.

2. Proliferative diabetic retinopathy

The small blood vessels become leaky and there is lack of oxygen to our eye (hypoxia). This hypoxia leads to increased VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor), which is a critical factor that leads to the growth of new blood vessels. Unfortunately, these new blood vessels are quite fragile, and can become leaky easily, thus triggering the whole cycle again. This process eventually leads to loss of vision.

Diabetic retinopathy can develop without symptoms. However, it usually occurs in patients already on dialysis. Even though there are treatments available, most Malaysians get it detected too late, inevitably resulting in blindness.

Over 60% of patients with Type 2 diabetes have some degree of diabetic retinopathy 20 years later. The only way to delay it is to control your diet and take medications.

Some ways to control your dietary habit include:

1) Carbohydrate intake should be limited to small amounts in each meal.  This will even out the blood sugar levels throughout the day. So, don't skip a meal then gorge on buffet later.

2) Fibre intake should be increased, as it will help slow down the absorption of sugars during metabolism. Click on this link to discover How to Choose a Quality Dietary Fibre.

3) Fat intake should be in moderation. Choose healthier fat like vegetable oils (monounsaturated fats) and omega-3 fatty acids (polyunsaturated fats).
