I have come up with three simple ways that may help someone with psoriasis as follows:

What you eat plays a significant role on your health. A balanced diet consisting of juicy fruits and fresh vegetables is the best way to live a happy, healthy and fulfilled life. Moreover, diet may play a huge role in managing and reducing the effects of psoriasis.

Fish and seafood

Fatty fish such as mackerel, sardines, salmon, and albacore tuna are enriched with omega-3 fatty acids that are fundamental for a healthy diet. Fish oil improves the immune system and reduces inflammatory effects, which is overactive in people suffering from psoriasis. Therefore consuming fish at least twice a week would be a great idea.

Blue Berries

These not only work as an anti-inflammatory tonic, but also delivers fiber, manganese (good for your bone health), and vitamin C. Other fruits with anti-inflammatory properties include mangoes, figs, and strawberries.


Herbs are commonly utilized to heal various conditions. Turmeric may help minimize psoriasis effects and can be taken with medication or sprinkled on your food or in supplement form.


Garlic is loaded with natural antibiotic properties, and you must have used it in your soup when you have had a cold. Moreover, it may also prove effective for psoriasis patients. Because it is a lipoxygenase inhibitor that stops the activity of enzymes which are responsible for inflammation.

2. Say No To These Items

Certain foods and beverages may aggregate the effects of psoriasis. Your physician might ask you to reduce or stop the consumption of following items:

Red Meat

Arachidonic acids in the red meat can worsen the symptoms of psoriasis because these can easily be transformed into inflammatory compounds. Therefore, reduce consumption of red meat and processed meats including bacon and sausage.

Junk Foods

Junk foods are loaded with elements that can promote skin inflammation. Moreover, these add to your overall body weight. Studies suggest that patients with psoriasis have an increased risk of heart problems and vascular diseases. Being overweight intensifies the risk.


Many patients with psoriasis have reported harmful effects of alcohol consumption. A study published in NCBI has shown an increased risk of developing psoriasis among US women who take non-light beer.

3. Stay Away From Fragrances and Artificial Beauty Items

Most perfumes and soaps are formulated with dyes and chemicals with artificial fragrances that may irritate your skin. Though these smell good; they can inflame psoriasis as well. Avoid such products whenever possible, or, choose those that are labeled with “sensitive skin”. Application of beauty creams and lotions available in the market can also harm your skin and worsen the condition. Consequently, always seek your doctor’s advice before using any of these items.

We all have control over our health with the choice of food we eat, and lifestyle that we adopt. Though psoriasis is a chronic skin condition, the sufferer can prevent and reduce its consequences by avoiding items that may reinforce its effects such as consumption of junk foods, red meat and alcohol, and application of artificial beauty items and fragrances on your skin. Stick to a healthy diet that is enriched with anti-inflammatory and skin health promoting properties, such as fresh vegetables and juicy fruits including fish, seafood, blueberries, garlic, and turmeric.
